At St. Philomena School each student is treated
with respect and trust and is recognized as
a unique individual with specific needs and
talents. One of our goals is to see each child
grow and assume more and more responsibility
for decision-making, thus becoming a responsible,
caring and confident young adult.
Moral development and religious instruction
are an integral part of the curriculum at
all grade levels. Religion is approached not
just as one more subject alongside the rest,
but instead as a companion to help interpret
and give deeper meaning to the experience
of living and learning. The teaching of Christian
values extends outside the classroom as our
students participate in community service
outreach programs and prepare liturgies and
prayer services.
Our curriculum includes ability-based programs
in reading, mathematics and language arts.
Students in all grades also have classes in
religion, social studies and science, computers
and physical education. We are fortunate to
have excellent facilities for art, computer,
music and library instruction.
In grades 5-8, students participate in an
elective program which offers additional learning
opportunities in the arts and humanities,
including drama, music, crafts, art, the internet
and a student newspaper.
Our junior high school students are well-prepared
for secondary school through a diverse curriculum
which includes literature, French and algebra.

Challenging programs for the gifted and talented
students are available, and resource help
is provided for students needing assistance.
A large gymnasium, soccer field, tennis and
basketball courts provide ample facilities
for physical education instruction and a diverse
sports program.
St. Philomena School graduates are welcomed
at many fine Catholic, private and public
high schools, including Portsmouth Abbey School,
Bishop Connolly High School, Bishop Stang
High School, Wheeler School, Lincoln School,
St. Mary's Academy - Bay View, LaSalle Academy,
St. George's School, and others. They adapt
well to high school life where they excel
in academics, sports, leadership and the arts.

St. Philomena School fosters
a family atmosphere among its students, faculty,
staff, parents and alumni.
Many parents volunteer inside and outside of
the classroom and are involved in our Parents

This family spirit extends to our alumni and
