St. Philomena School's music program for Grades
K -6 uses the Orff-Schulwerk method, designed
to enrich the student's lives through the development
of his or her inherent musical ability. The
child learns by creating music, listening, and
performing using materials which are simple,
basic, natural, and close to the child's world
of thought and fantasy.
Christian values are incorporated into the
curriculum as well as through other activities
where music plays an important role. Thus, students
are prepared for meaningful events such as Christmas,
Thanksgiving, and Easter, as well as for school
Masses.
This development is complemented by music activities such as Chorus and
Handbell Choir, piano and band instrument lessons, chorus and band. In keeping
with the philosophy of sharing talents and reaching out to the wider community,
groups visit nursing homes, other schools, or local shopping areas during
the Christmas and spring seasons.
A highlight of the year at St. Philomena School is the popular Talent
Show, held in the Spring. This event provides a time for students to share
their God-given talents and show appreciation for the gifts of others. |
