On the primary level the students are involved
in many small group projects, and participate
in field trips. On the intermediate level the
Social Studies program is also stimulating and
innovative. There is an emphasis on bringing
geography and history to life. In Grade 3 the
students undergo an in-depth study of Black
History culminating in a dramatic presentation.
A cartographer visits Grade 4 to guide the students
in map-making skills; later they practice these
skills on computer. The Grade 5 study of American
history includes an exploration of the life
of the early settlers. In Grade 6 the study
of ancient civilizations is enhanced by a group
research project comparing and contrasting two
civilizations.
United States History is the focus in seventh and eighth grades. Many
special projects and activities are included in this study, and independent
learning is both encouraged and expected.
