Mathematics

Through the school's Math curriculum, a child at St. Philomena School experiences both the traditional approach to learning Math skills and the more creative assignments designed to show the real world relevance of those same abilities.

Manipulatives are used at all grade levels for hands-on understanding of topics from place value, to measurement, to geometry.

Computers, as well as calculators, are available in classrooms for the children to use during the school day to practice and sharpen skills. Projects, games, puzzles and activities that truly involve the students in the use of mathematical skills contribute to better understanding of various concepts.

Eighth grade students are enrolled in pre-algebra or algebra, depending on their previous math experiences, and are exposed to the same creative techniques which make the abstract real and meaningful.
