Transportation

Free school bus transportation is provided by the Rhode Island cities and towns of Little Compton, Newport, Middletown, Portsmouth and Tiverton.

All other children are transported to St. Philomena School by their  families, some of whom may participate in carpools.

St. Philomena School uses a rolling admissions process for grades kindergarten through seven. As openings occur, parents of prospective students are contacted in order of the date of application. Siblings of current students and children of graduates are given priority.

When you are contacted, your child (grades 1 through grade 7) will be invited to visit a class for the day (kindergarten pupils visit for an hour or two). At the end of the day the student, and at least one parent, will interview with the principal and school nurse.  A determination regarding acceptance is usually made within the next few days and an acknowledgement letter with enrollment materials will be sent to you.

In February we will invite each Pre-K family to meet with the principal and school nurse as we go down our list of applicants. Parents will be notified with regard to acceptance status. After February we use the same rolling admissions process (as described above) to fill any remaining openings in the pre-kindergarten classes.
