Saint Philomena School of the Sacred Heart is a Catholic, independent, Sacred Heart school serving 450 students in preschool through grade 8 located in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Finance and Operations, an administrator and member of the School Leadership Team, is responsible for providing strong financial and operational leadership, executing the school’s finance function, ensuring institutional financial integrity, and advancing the mission of the school in collaboration with school administration and Board of Trustees. The role requires on-site presence during the School’s normal operating hours during the academic year.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage all accounting functions including: payroll and employee benefits , tuition management including billing and collections, accounts payable, cash flow, budgeting and forecasting
- Assist Head of School with buildings and grounds operational planning & management
- Direct all purchasing and contracting functions
- Manage debt relationships and payments
- Coordinate Capital Expenditures
- Serve as coordinator for HR related matters including administration of all employee benefits
- Prepare the monthly and annual financial reporting
- Prepare monthly account reconciliations including bank reconciliations
- Coordinate transactions with respect to investment funds
- Lead preparation of an annual operating plan
- Coordinate external annual audit engagement
- Oversee insurance, including annual renewals, coverage analysis and broker relationship
- Serve as principal contact for all financial related inquiries
- Coordinate Financial Aid Application and Review Process
- Work with the Director of Admissions & Enrollment on matters of mutual intersection
- Assume responsibility for reporting and compliance functions with the Sacred Heart Network of Schools, School Board, Diocese and governmental and regulatory bodies
- Engage with Board Finance Committee, Buildings and Grounds Committee, and Institutional Advancement Committee
- Maintain relationships with the Network of Sacred Heart of Schools, ISARI, Diocese of Providence, and other professional affiliations that advance and connect the school
- Prepare materials, reports and documents as requested by the Head of School
- Other duties as assigned by the Head of School
CORE QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required)
- Knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles (GAAP)
- Minimum of five years of progressive financial experience
- Strong systems proficiency, including Excel modeling
- High integrity and discretion

SALARY
Commensurate with experience, qualifications and education
